Simon Chavez Obituary

Simon Chavez, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 08, 2024 at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Saint Columba R.C. Church, 25 Thomas Street, Newark, NJ on Thursday, December 12 at beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.

Born on January 12, 1955, in Quito, Ecuador, Simon lived a life filled with kindness, integrity, and devotion to those he loved.

Simon was the devoted husband of Carmen Chavez, with whom he recently celebrated 49 years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on love, family, and faith. He was the cherished father of Karen Cueva, Richard Chavez, Krystle Galarza and a proud grandfather to Xavier, Bryanna, Amanda, Rebecca, Sebastián, Eva, Domiic, Jonah, Celeste, Estefania, Gianna, Ricardo, Sean, Thomas, David, Amir, Kamila, Jacob, and Charlotte, whose laughter and accomplishments brought him endless joy.

Throughout his life, Simon was known for his gentle spirit, warm smile, and tireless dedication to his family and community. He found great joy in drawing, painting, and gardening with his wife often sharing his talents to bring happiness to others. A man of strong faith, Simon’s unwavering belief in love and compassion inspired all who knew him.

Simon’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched. His family finds comfort in the memories of his wisdom, humor, and unwavering support. He is survived by his Wife Carmen Chavez, his children Karen (Ruben), Richard, Krystle(Jose), 19 Grandchildren, and 4 Great Grandchildren, and his brother James Chavez. Preceded in death by his parents Bolivar Chavez and Maruja (Romero) Chavez. 

Simon Chavez will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His life was a testament to love, kindness, and resilience-a shining example for all who knew him.
