Rose Brobson Smith, 100, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023, at home in Belleville, NJ.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ on Monday, July 31 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
Mrs. Smith was born January 17, 1923, to John and Eleanor (White) Brobson in Orange, NJ. She entered a large family and for a while lived amongst many aunts and uncles and cousins in Orange. She later moved to Kearny where she graduated from Kearny High School excelling both academically and athletically. She graduated amongst the top in her class and lettered in five sports while becoming a Red Cross Lifeguard. She moved to Belleville seventy-three years ago.
Later in life she became the Bookkeeper for Hill Electric in Kearny for over twenty-five years before retiring.
Rose is survived by her son, John Kevin Smith and his wife Julie, daughter-in-law Sharon Smith and five grandchildren, Kathryn Elizabeth Smith, Heather Rose Carra-Smith, Maggie Lynn Smith, Shane Joseph Smith and Patrick Caldwell Smith. She was the great-grandmother of Cameron John Doughty, Killian Cooper Smith and Alexandria Carra.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph F. Smith after 52 years of marriage and her son, Joseph M. Smith.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Joseph M. Smith Scholarship at the Manhattan School of Music Office of Advancement, 130 Claremont Avenue New York, NY 10027.
