Rosalia (Cruz) Mercado

Rosalia Mercado, (nee Cruz), 72, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020, in Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville, NJ.

The funeral will be from the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be offered in St, Michael’s Church, Newark at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m.

Ms. Mercado was born and raised in Isabela, Puerto Rico. She moved to Newark, NJ at age 20 and lived there until moving to Belleville, NJ in 1999.

She was a Lab Tech at Hoffman-La Roche in Belleville, NJ for 20 years before retiring and also worked part-time in the child daycare department at La Casa De Don Pedro, Inc on Broadway in Newark.

Rosalia is survived by her sons, Angel Velez and Inocencio “Carlos” Velez, six siblings, Carmen Valentin, Elba Gonzales, Blanca Perez, Nilsa Cruz-Valentin, Daniel Cruz and Noel Cruz.

She was the grandmother of Jonathan, Tiffany, Nadaniel, Natalie, Alexis, Angelina, and Angel Velez and the great-grandmother of Jovaniel, Jayvian, and Lisa Nicole Velez.
