Owen G. McGonigle

Owen G. McGonigle, 77, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020, at home in North Arlington, NJ.

The funeral will be from the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ on Saturday, February 1 at 9:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Stephen’s Church, Kearny at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Mr. McGonigle was born in Jersey City, NJ and lived in Harrison, NJ, East Newark, NJ, and Kearny before moving to North Arlington one month ago.

He was a Corrections Officer at the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny for 30 years. He retired in 2007 with the rank of Sergeant Major.

Owen was a member of Our Lady of Grace Council # 402, Knights of Columbus in Harrison and was a volunteer firefighter with East Newark and was a member of the New Jersey State Exempt Firemen’s Association.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria (nee Kostura) McGonigle; five children, Bernadette Striano and her husband, Paul, Charles McGonigle and his wife, Denise, Rosemarie Traynor and her husband, Scott, Catherine Smith and her husband, Christopher and Owen McGonigle and his wife, Yolanda. He was the brother of Margaret McGonigle. Owen was the beloved grandfather of Sophia, Frank, Michael, Liam, Catherine, Owen, Gavin and Jeremy.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Ellen Ralph and John and Charles McGonigle.
