John F. Rohweder

John F. Rohweder, 93, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2019, at his home in East Rutherford, NJ.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ on Friday, January 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst, NJ.

John was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ and lived there until moving to East Rutherford in 1975.

He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

Mr. Rohweder was a Yardmaster and began his career with the Pennsylvania Railroad which later became the Erie Lackawanna Railway. He worked for 45 years before retiring in 1988 for NJ Transit.

He is survived by his daughters, Debra Downey and her husband, Timothy, and Janet Monaco and her husband, David; and one grandson, Evan Downey.

John was predeceased by his wife, Sophie (nee Ostapeck).
