John V. O'Rourke

Mr. John V. O’Rourke, 86, died at home in Kearny, NJ on August 27, 2023.

Visiting will be held in the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, on Wednesday, August 30 from 3 to 7 pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Kearny on Thursday, August 31 at 10 am. Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Born and raised in Jamaica, Queens, Mr. O’Rourke served in the US Army in Germany from 1959-1961 and continued to serve in the Army Reserves until 1965. Following his tour of active duty, Mr. O’Rourke moved to Kearny with his beloved wife, Ann. He was a dedicated manager of several local A&P Supermarkets for fifty years.

Mr. O’Rourke will be remembered as the ultimate family man. He cherished yearly family trips to St. Maarten and catching ball games at Shea Stadium with family and friends. Mr. O’Rourke was a doting grandfather who relished cheering on his grandkids at their games.

He was predeceased by his sister, Carol McKewon.

Mr. O’Rourke is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ann (nee DiNardo) O’Rourke; children, John V. O’Rourke, Jr. (Stacy), Gary O’Rourke and Renee O’Rourke Iorio (Rich); grandchildren, Ryan O’Rourke (Nicole), Nicole Iorio and Brandon Iorio; siblings, Thomas O’Rourke (Susan) and Mary Ellen Gaffney (John) as well as many nieces and nephews.
