Joao Mario Nunes

Joao Mario Nunes, 67, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2020, in St. Michael’s Medical Center, Newark, NJ.

The funeral will be from the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ on Tuesday, November 17 at 9:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be offered in Holy Cross Church, Harrison, NJ at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the funeral home on Monday, November 16 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Born in Ilhavo, Portugal, Mr. Nunes immigrated to the United States in September of 1980. He lived in Harrison for 33 years before moving to Kearny seven years ago.

He was a member of the Portuguese Cultural Association of Kearny and Centro Romeu Cascaes – Portuguese American Community of Harrison.

Mr. Nunes is survived by his wife, Maria Filomena (nee Rodrigues Freites), two children, Alexandra Nunes-Garcia and Joao Antonio Nunes, one brother, Eduardo Nunes, and three sisters, Lidia Santos, Eduarda Nunes, and Maria Vidreiro. He was the grandfather of Jordan, Tobias, Abigail, and Natalie Garcia and Joseph and Alexander Nunes.
