James A. Wolowitz, 67, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024, in University Medical Center, Newark, NJ
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ on Thursday, April 18 from 3 to 8 p.m. Cremation will be private.
Born in Jersey City, NJ and raised in the Greenville section, Jimmy lived there until moving to North Arlington, NJ 45 years ago.
An exceptional athlete, Jim pitched a no hitter during his playing days in the Jersey City Little League and would later pitch another one during his high school career at Saint Peter’s Prep in Jersey City where he graduated from in 1975. He was also a three-year varsity starter at quarterback for Prep.
Mr. Wolowitz was the manager at Laico’s Restaurant on Terhune Avenue in Jersey City for well over 4o years. Every patron who walked through the door at Laico’s knew Jimmy… and that meant for life. A warm smile, tremendous food always, accompanied with a perfect drink and great conversation with Jim was always part of the day at Laico's.
James was a member of B.P.O.E. No. 1992, North Arlington.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan (Salerno) Wolowitz, two children, Stephen Wolowitz and his wife, Melissa and Deanna Chernovetsky and her husband, Eugene, two brothers, Robert Wolowitz and his wife Sharon and Thomas Wolowitz. Jim was the beloved grandfather of Claire and Maeve Wolowitz. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Virginia Wolowitz.
