Ernesto Floro Ramirez, D.M.D., 92, passed away peacefully at home in Kearny on Saturday, May 16, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home on Monday, May 18, and Tuesday, May 19, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will begin at the funeral home on Wednesday morning at 8:45 a.m., followed by a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Stephen’s R.C. Church. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum.
Born in Tayabas Tondo, Metro Manila, Philippines, Ernesto immigrated to the United States in 1972. He first lived in Newark, then Jersey City, before settling in Kearny in 1984.
Mr. Ramirez earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine in the Philippines and was board certified there, practicing dentistry for more than thirty years. He was also a member of Cursillo, a Catholic movement in the Philippines.
Ernesto loved classic films, music, and great food. He had a keen eye for style and was known for never being able to sit still, always wanting to keep busy. He enjoyed tinkering with everything from yardwork and housework to sewing. However, it was best to keep him away from plants and flowers. Although he would never admit it, he lacked a green thumb.
He is survived by his children: Elvira Balin; Ernesto Ramirez, Jr. and his wife, Myrna; Evelyn Bustos and her husband, Eduardo; and Emily Carluen and her husband, Abner. He was the beloved grandfather of Christopher Bustos, Bryan Ramirez, Steven Ramirez and his wife, Cessy, Christian Bustos, Cheryl Balin Orpilla and her husband, Ler Orpilla, Ronald Balin, Therese Carluen, Ashley Carluen, and Justin Bustos. He was also the cherished great-grandfather of Rhi’anna, Gabriel, Adam, Allyson, Cassandra, and Aaron.
Mr. Ramirez was predeceased by his beloved wife, Simplicia (née Samong) Ramirez; his son-in-law, Efrem Balin; and his siblings, Felisa Bautista, Agripina Montilla, Mariano Ramirez, Cipriano Ramirez, Catalina Ramirez, Fidela Alonzo, Monica Ramirez, and Macario Ramirez.
