Edward A. Keifrider, 62, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 30, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born and raised in the Ironbound section of Newark, NJ, Edward’s heart always remained in the community that shaped him. Three years ago, he moved to Kearny, where he continued to live life surrounded by family and friends who loved him dearly.
Edward began working at the age of 18 for United Cargo at Newark Airport, where he remained a dedicated and hardworking employee until his final days. His loyalty and strong work ethic were matched only by his generous spirit.
A lifelong volunteer, Edward devoted countless hours to the Ironbound Little League, serving in every capacity from coach to mentor. He had a special gift for connecting with others—especially the children he coached—instilling not just skills, but sportsmanship, teamwork, and heart.
Edward was a proud fan of the Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Reds, and he never missed a chance to cheer on his teams. He loved to travel, especially his cherished annual family trips to Ocean City, MD. Those beach vacations, filled with laughter, love, and togetherness, were among his happiest moments. At home, his faithful dog Bella was always by his side, bringing him joy and comfort.
Edward’s kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed. He is survived by his nephew, Timothy Murphy; his niece, Tracey Adams (Micah Adams, husband); great-nieces Chyenne Crumley, Madelyn Murphy, and Brooke Adams; and great-nephews, Wyatt Crumley. He also leaves his dear friend, Chrissy Vaz and her children, Louis Cortez, Jr. and Vincent Vaz.
He was predeceased by his loving parents, Herman and Emily (Cooke) Keifrider, and his siblings, Barbara Ann Murphy, Herman Keifrider Jr., and Charles Keifrider.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Edward’s life at the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ, on Friday, November 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday morning, November 15, at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at Rosedale Cemetery in Linden, NJ.
Edward will be remembered for his strength, compassion, and the warmth he brought to everyone lucky enough to know him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he loved.
