Dorothy A. (Shekon) D'Angelo

Dorothy A. D’Angelo (nee Shekon), 93, died peacefully on March 11, 2023 at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, SC.   She was born on February 16, 1930, in Coupon, PA, and was one of 7 children. Dottie was married to Albert D’Angelo for 53 wonderful years and lived a fulfilling life as a wife, sister and aunt.  She and Al began their life together in Irvington and then moved to and became long-time residents of Mountainside, where she and Albert resided for over 30 years. They eventually moved to Warren, NJ where they lived in a beautiful dream home and loved to entertain their family and friends.  They loved to go to Atlantic City and would cruise every chance they got. They traveled to many amazing places together, which was what they loved most. 

When Albert passed in 2008, Dottie eventually moved to Murrells Inlet, SC, near her sisters and became a resident of Live Oaks Community, where she was surrounded by many wonderful friends, neighbors and family.  In 2021, she moved into Arbor Landing Assisted Living where she lived out the rest of her life.  She was a sweet, caring and generous soul who will be missed dearly.

Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, Stella and Stanley Shekon, her husband, Albert D’Angelo, brothers John, Robert, Charlie, and sisters Marie, Penny and Edna.  She is survived by her sister-in-laws, Reggie Shekon, Lorraine Shekon and Joanne Capabianco of NJ, Janet Vickery (Ray) of AZ, and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ, on Thursday, March 23, from 2 to 6 p.m. The funeral will begin in the funeral home on Friday morning; March 24 at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Resurrection at Holy Cross Mausoleum, North Arlington, NJ, on Friday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m., where she will be put to final rest with her husband, Albert.
