Cary, as she was called, practiced her nursing profession with tremendous dedication and love after graduating from the prestigious Calixto Garcia Hospital nursing program in Havana, Cuba, at the top of her class. After graduation, she worked at various hospitals in Havana, including Claixto Garcia Hospital. In the second part of her career, Cary spent over 40 years at the National Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology of Havana, where she rose to head of the operating rooms until she retired in 2005. Even after her retirement, she continued to help those who needed her medical guidance and knowledge.

She was the beloved wife of Santiago Garcia, known as Solano; they were married for 29 years until his death in 1990. Cary was a devoted and caring mother to her only son Jorge Garcia, who resides in Hollywood, Florida with his wife Mayte and two adult sons Andy and Kevin. She was the eldest daughter of Elisa Alonso and Domingo Cabral whom she cared for until their death. She was a loving and protective elder sister to Elisa Matalobos nee Cabral and their late brother Domingo Cabral Alonso.

She joyously looked forward to her yearly visits with her sister in New Jersey, where she would spend a few months enjoying and going out to restaurants, shopping, visiting the Jersey shore, watching movies and telenovelas with her nieces, Mayda, Liz, and Kate, and always looked forward to her coffee klatch time with friends. She was loved by many who met her during her visits in the USA.

She also leaves an entire Havana community that loved and respected her; they will miss her tremendously.
