Alfred “Buddy” Greenhalgh, 86, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025, at home in Kearny, NJ.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ on Sunday, August 10 from 3 to 6 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 5:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
Born and raised in Kearny, NJ, Mr. Greenhalgh moved to North Arlington, NJ in 1965 and lived there until returning to Kearny in 2005.
Mr. Greenhalgh proudly served in the Coast Guard Reserve.
He owned and operated Greenhalgh News Service and Greenhalgh Supplies in Kearny for over 40 years before retiring. After retirement, Mr. Greenhalgh worked for RWJ Barnabas as a medical transporter and security guard until 2014. He was an avid bowler at the North Arlington Bowl-O-Drome as well as an avid horse racing enthusiast.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Gladys Arce, three beloved daughters, Lisa Dlugo (Philip), Lori Rodimer (Thomas) and Luann Woehlemann (William). He was the grandfather of Michael Dlugo (Gabrielle), Cara Dlugo-Munley (Michael), Melanie Rodimer (Kevin), Katrina Rodimer, Summer Rodimer, Alexa Woehlemann and Nicholas Woehlemann and great-grandfather to Vincent and Antonia Dlugo. Alfred also leaves behind two nieces and three nephews, as well as many extended family members and cousins who will cherish his memory.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Marilyn (Villano) Greenhalgh, parents, Helen (Coupe) and Alfred Greenhalgh, Jr., as well as a sister, Joyce Johnson.
