Born in Jersey City, Al was a lifelong resident of Kearny, where he raised his family and became an unforgettable part of the community. Whether attending Kearny soccer games or enjoying coffee on the Avenue, Al was always a familiar and friendly face.

Al built a successful career as the owner and operator of McCullough & Gee Trucking Company for many years. Later, he transitioned into real estate, working with Century 21, Nancy F. Blevins Real Estate in Kearny. Even after retiring, he remained active in his community, returning to his love of driving and conversation as a bus driver for the Harrison Board of Education.

His dedication to service extended far beyond work. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1961.  Al was a proud member of Wilson-Gugelman Post 1302, V.F.W., and Joseph E. Frobisher Post 99, American Legion, both in Kearny. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Queen of Peace Council No. 3428 in North Arlington.

Soccer was Al’s lifelong passion. He was a dedicated member of Thistle F.C. in Kearny, where he served as a coach, registrar, and proud inductee into the Thistle F.C. Hall of Fame. His involvement in the sport extended to his role as Coach, Commissioner and Registrar for the Northern Counties Soccer Association. Through his commitment to youth soccer, he left a lasting mark on countless young athletes.

Al is survived by his beloved wife, Judith (née Confessore) Gaitka; his loving daughters, Melissa Halpern (Eric) and Nadine Damiano (Louis); and his cherished grandchildren, Sophia, Addison, James, and Nicholas. He was predeceased by his parents, Albin and Stella (née Kijewski) Gaitka, and his sister, Cecilia “Cookie” Mansfield.

Al will be remembered for his devotion to family, his unwavering service to the community, and his lifelong love of soccer and conversation. His presence, guidance, and humor will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
