Michael R. McCann

Michael Robert McCann, a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully, at home, on March 10, 2024.  He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love. Born in Newark, NJ, Michael grew up in the close-knit community of Kearny. His vibrant life touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He completed his early education at St. Stephen's Grammar School in 1978 and graduated from Queen of Peace High School with the Class of 1982. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Ohio University.

For 30 years, Michael called Dunellen, NJ, home. As a technical estimator at ISP Automation in Dayton, NJ, Michael's professional contributions were marked by diligence and a commitment to excellence.

Music held a special place in Michael’s heart, providing a soundtrack to his life that resonated with joy.  He held a particular fondness for live music, attending a BTO concert only two days before his untimely death.  Michael found great joy in entertaining friends and family.  His annual 4th of July celebrations were a highlight, filled with laughter, good food, fireworks and cherished moments.

 Michael was a devoted son, brother and uncle, showering his family with love and affection. His generous spirit extended to his wide circle of friends, whom he treated with warmth and kindness. Michael found joy in doting on those he held dear, particularly the Dow boys, Michael and Dylan. He created a network of love and support that will be remembered for years to come.

Michael was predeceased by his mother, Joan McCann.

He is survived by his beloved father, Robert W. McCann of Kearny; loving sisters, Elizabeth McCann of London, England (Nigel Hankin) and Ellen Stoute of Hummelstown, PA; cherished nieces and nephews, Alice Hankin, Emily Hankin, Julian Stoute, Gabriel Stoute and Isabelle Stoute and many dear friends.

Visiting will be held on Saturday, March 16 from 12:30 to 3:30 PM at the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ 07032. A service will be held at 3:30  PM at the funeral home with a reception to follow at The Roma Restaurant at 33 Crystal Street in North Arlington.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Michael's honor.  Also consider, paying it forward like Michael would have.  Buy the cup of coffee for the stranger in line, send a drink to someone that looks lonely at the bar, try to be kind to everyone you encounter.
