Jose Antonio Hernandez

Jose Antonio Hernandez, 89, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, in Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville, NJ.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ on Monday, March 18 from 10:30 am until 12:00 p.m. The funeral will then begin in the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. then to St. Cecilia R.C. Church, Kearny where a 1:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.

Born in Manzanillo, Cuba, Mr. Hernandez immigrated to the United States over fifty years ago and lived in East Newark, NJ.

He was employed by Hudson County and served as the bridge operator at the Clay Street Bridge in East Newark for many years. After, he worked at Hudson Regional Medical Center in Secaucus, NJ before retiring.

Jose was a proud member of the East Newark Seniors.

Mr. Hernandez is survived by his wife, Rosa (nee Quintana), Hernandez, and one daughter, Angela Viera (Francisco). He was the grandfather of Rafael and Robert Viera and Joephine Viera-Cooper (Ryan), and great-grandfather of Megan Mya Viera-Land, Emilio Viera, Adrianna Viera, Delaney Viera, Prynce Viera-Almendra and Jeramiah T. Cooper.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joaquin and Lucia (Manchon) Hernandez and three siblings, Matilde Hernandez, Manuel Hernandez and Joaquin Hernandez.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.
