Mario Melo Teixeira, 55, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017 at his home in Aberdeen Township, NJ.

The funeral will be from the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Cecilia Church, Kearny at 10:00 a.m. Cremation will be private. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Inurnment of cremains will be held on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington, NJ. Chapel 3.

Mario was born in Febres, Portugal and immigrated to Newark, NJ in 1987. He moved to Kearny in 1991 and lived there until moving to Aberdeen Township in 2007.

Mr. Teixeira was a construction worker for J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc. in Hackensack, NJ for the last 20 years and was a member of Heavy and General Labors Local 472 in Newark.

Breeding and racing homing pigeons was his passion. He was a member of the Perth Amboy Pigeon Club. He could always be heard saying, “ I have the best pigeons.”

He is survived by his wife, Irene (nee Oliveira) Teixeira; three children, Sara Teixeira Jones and her husband, Daniel; Mario Teixeira, and Catarina Teixeira Slocum and her husband, James. He was the brother of Preciosa  Manata, Fernanda Cruz, Amelia Barreira, Lidia Silvestre, Helena Conceicao and Oscar, Fernando and Carlos Teixeira.

Mario was pre-deceased by his parents, Augusto Catarino Teixeira and Edite Encarnacao Melo Teixeira and his brother, Augusto Teixeira.
