Joseph Cassera, 90, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at home in Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.

Mr. Cassera was born and raised in Kearny and lived there over 60 years before moving to Pt. Pleasant Beach in 1995. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1945 until 1946. Joseph was a fire fighter for the town of Kearny from 1950 until 1985, retiring as a Captain.

He is survived by his daughter, Marie Cassera and her husband Peter DiGiore and one son, Joseph Cassera, Jr. He was the grandfather of Lorenzo Natoli and Elliot and Eric Nash. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife Jacqueline (nee Brunelle) Cassera in 1998 and his daughter Michele Nash in 1991.
